Kayaking At Vector Wero Whitewater Park !

Today Room 8 went on a trip to Vector wero whitewater park, we got the chance to kayak with professionals and wear swimsuits. Once we all had the special gear on we had to get in a line from the shortest to tallest. The reason for that was because the instructors needed to give us the right kayak that our legs and our body could fit in. After that we got to go in the water. A Lot of people were struggling in the beginning but they got the hang of it. We had to follow the instructors all the way to the bridge. We learnt heaps from today and it was super cool.

New Phone Number For The Police!

Image result for new number for policeThere is now a new official phone number for the new zealand police.

The new number is for non-emergencies. If you have a non-emergency you should call 105 now. Police minister Stuart Nash hoping that kind of repetition will make the number as memorable as 111. The police have put a two million dollar marketing budget behind the phone number to ensure every New Zealander knows it and when to call it.

The new number does not replace 111, it is still the number for emergencies. If you need to report a crime which has already happened, like a burglary or property damage and there is no threat dial 105.

Now people can feel a lot safer with a new number.

Paidea Seminar

Waiting to get my hands on the lollies, I was so nervous. I thought that I was just going shut my mouth for the whole Seminar. But I didn't! I think that i did better than before because I made everything simple.I think I only talked 6 times I recon I could talk more than that. I would've talked more if  I had the time to because of 😈(Bethan)😈.She was dominating the conversation like nothing was happening.

I think I should've Challenged Justice because he was challenging a lot of people except me.There was a lot of people that was dominating but Bethan and Justice was the best.I hope we have another seminar so I would try Dominate.

Rubric Reflection Term 2

I looked at my rubric reflection and I was a little bit disappointed because I knew I could do better. I recon that I need to work on my Key Competencies so I could get a higher score. I think I should've worked harder on my Planning and Research because I knew I could do Better. I hope my next Rubric Reflection would be better because I would work Harder!

Seminar Reflection

This Term the Extension group had a Paideia Seminar. Our focus for the Seminar was technology particularly new technology. We had to think if our world was a digital world. We did our Seminar in the Tusitala were we had our last Seminar about pollution. I was nervous I thought I was going to say nothing but I keep talking. It was good but I had to give others a chance to speak. The whole Extension had to get in groups of two. My partner was Paikea she was great. I wish I was like Bethan how she encouraged people to talk more.Me and Justice Challenged each other because he said we were wasting coal by using computers.I complained about how we are using to much paper and cutting down trees. We also talked about how there was pollution I said It was getting polluted by paper.Next time when we have our Paideia Seminar I want to talk less.

Day 5 Activity 1

Activity 1: After a few hours in the car, you, your group and Curious Kiwi arrive at your first stop – The Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve. It is a beautiful, regional park located at the base of the Southern Alps. You and your group get out of the van and follow Curious Kiwi. He is going to lead you on a short walk through the park. As you start walking, you notice a really cool looking tree on the side of the trail and you stop to take a closer look. When you turn back, the group (and Curious Kiwi) is nowhere to be found. Eek! You are all alone in the middle of a strange forest.
For this activity write a short story (8-10 sentences) about what might happen next. Please be sure to include lots of details about what you might be feeling, seeing and doing after you realise that you are all alone in the forest...
I reached closer to the tree when I turned around I was alone! Nothing to see all there was were trees.”I need to find my friends”.

So I walked along the track when I took a turn.Splash!I was so wet I have fallen in the Lewis river.I climbed out of the river and started to walk along the track.

I tried to climb a tree but it was to tall I thought I would have fallen off.I tried to follow the way I Came from when I was with Curious Kiwi.I had no hope I thought I was going to be stuck here forever. Then I found Curious Kiwi.Hooray! That Day I decided to never give up.

Day 3 Activity 2

Activity 2: After your great visit to the Otorohanga bird house it is time to hop back onto the bus and head towards the Hawke’s Bay – your resting place for the evening. Hawke’s Bay is a beautiful region of New Zealand. It is known for its wineries and gorgeous scenery. When you arrive in Napier, the largest city in the region, you go for a walk through Waitangi Regional Park and notice that many of the leaves on the native trees have been damaged. Curious Kiwi tells you that they were damaged by possums, non-native predators, from Australia. People in New Zealand are working hard to trap and kill these predators. Their goal is to remove all of the possums (and other predators) by 2050. Go to the ‘Predator Free 2050 website’ to read more about their work.On your blog, tell us whether you agree that New Zealand should be predator free. In your opinion, is it right to kill all of the predators (eg. possums) or should we just leave them alone? On your blog tell us what you think and give us, at least, three reasons why you think this way.
Once you have finished your blog post, it is time to relax for the evening. You and your friends have a nice dinner and then head to bed. You are just about to fall asleep when you hear something moving around outside your hotel. It sounds like a large bird. Maybe it’s a Moa…
To learn more about the Moa bird go to the bonus activity for today!
I Think We Should Get Rid Of Predators Because They Are So Annoying. I also Think They Should Be Predator Free Because I want More Native Animal Then Other Animals.I also Think They should go because they would eat all the native birds.

Day 3 Activity 1

Activity 1: Curious Kiwi, a native New Zealand bird, is your tour guide for today. He is going to take you to visit the Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park where many of his aunties and uncles currently live. The bird park is a five hour drive from Dargaville so you hit the road right after breakfast and arrive in Otorohanga at lunch time. As you walk through the birdhouse you learn about the work being done to conserve and protect the native birds of New Zealand. You decide to help out by ‘adopting’ a native animal. Visit the ‘Adopt a Critter page’ on the Otorohanga bird house website to choose one animal to adopt. On your blog, tell us the name of the animal that you chose and a little bit about them. What kind of animal are they? What do they eat? Where do they normally live? You can use Google to help you with your research.

For my task I picked Tuatara as the Animal im adopting. Tuataras are a reptile it is endemic to New Zealand Its Scientific Name Is Sphenodon. They Eat The tuatara primarily preys on insects, beetles, spiders, birds eggs, frogs and small reptiles and mammals.Island homes. Tuatara once lived throughout the mainland of New Zealand but have survived in the wild only on 32 offshore islands.

Day 1 Activity

1. Maori people voyaged thousands of miles across the vast       unknown Pacific Ocean in small ocean-going canoes and       became the first inhabitants of Aotearoa New Zealand.
2.For the same reason that many visitors come to            New Zealand, Kiwis have developed a passion for the    outdoors and delight in activities that make the most of the    spectacular landscape.
3.Today, of the 4.4 million New Zealanders (informally known    as Kiwis), approximately 69% are of European descent,  14.6% are indigenous Māori, 9.2% Asian and 6.9% non-  Māori Pacific Islanders.

Thats Thinking

Walt: using exciting language.
Have you ever had a immersion assembly before? This term Point England School did. It was spectacular! There were lots of amazing movies like team 4s movie.

Our school theme this term is That's Thinking. Our school theme is about thinking. This term Team 1,2,3 are learning about kites and matariki. Team 5 is learning about fixing things around point england school.

This term team 4 is learning about what technology did the Maoris have before the pakehas were here. Our topic movie was really funny and educational. I liked it when Mr Goodwin said to make a time machine but the other teachers said no.

This term I want to learn about what the Maori weared in the old days. I also want to draw more pictures of what the technology they had in the old days. I want to learn what animals did they have before the pakehas came.

I think the new term topic is really cool because we're learning about a culture. I also think it's going to be hard but it will still be fantastic.

Task Description:My task was to use interesting language.

Dung Bettle

The Dung Beetle is a worshiped bug that likes collecting poo. They come in a variety of sizes upto 6cm long. It is so strong, that when it rolls the poop it looks like he is riding on a big snowball but instead it's brown.
